Current State of Trickjumping in the IceCube Engine

In the cube 2005 release, there is a single-player "trickjumping test!" map.

Here is the current status as of 998ec65 (on branch 'integration'). Be aware that selecting cube or IceCube rules won't change this status; the same physics rules are used.

Basic Strafejumping

OK

Basic Rocketjumping

3rd platform can be reached with 0.10x gamespeed @ 60 fps. Shoot a Rocket at the floor and immediately jump.

Notes

  1. Single Rocket Jump: appears to be OK

  2. Chained Rocket Jump (Rocket Jump into Rocket Jump)

  • Damagekick from the second Rocket seems to be too weak. Damagekick could be changed to factor in dynent's velocity.

Advanced Riflejumping

OK (Your tester used gamespeed 0.10x @ 60 FPS)

Advanced Rocketjumping

Probably broken

Notes

  1. Looks like it is possible to pass the first jump, but your tester has not achieved this yet

  2. Didn't test further

More Notes

  1. 1st gap is 35 cubes in length, height difference TBD

Current State of Rocketjumping

In the multiplayer map "aquae", there is a quad damage above the green armor. It's possible to reach this quad damage by rocketjumping off the side edge of the doorway! (Update: As of commit 998ec65, you can once again reach the quad damage by rocketjumping off the floor.)

Map Traversal

Faster Movement

You can move at 1.414x your usual movement speed when moving AND strafing. You will be traveling in a diagonal direction of your crosshair.

Speed Climbing

You can buffer a jump input immediately after jumping. This causes your character to immediately jump again after touching a floor.

  • This can be best explored on a map with stacked 4x4x4 "crates".

Gap Traversal

A gap that is 4 cubes wide and the same height on both sides can be traveled across without jumping. You'll fall slightly due to gravity, but the collision with the far side of the gap is within the stair height difference. This causes you to rise onto the platform.

  • TODO: Fix this by disallowing stair rise if the floor is too far away?

History of Physics Changes

2022-12-08: (commit: 998ec65): No longer uses energypush for Rocket and Grenade knockback.

2019-12-13: (commit: 0de08e9): Changed Rocket and Grenades to use energypush for knockback. This commit caused Rockets to have less vertical knockback effect on you if you already have vertical speed. Oops!

2017: (commit: 574efa8): The version used when this page was created.
